About Mell & Angie Monroe |
|
As a South side resident for over 9 years, Mell has been
active as a business man, community activist and youth mentor,
concerned about the future of this community and the well-being
of its residents. To this end, Mell and his wife, Angie
(pictured here with Mell), founded the Greater South Loop
Association (GSLA) and the Bronzeville Area Residents and Commerce Council (BARCC),
organizations both geared to assisting everyday citizens to organize together to identify,
address and find voice for the needs and concerns, from housing to
safety, from economic development to quality housing and housing development.
Professionally, Mell has had a wide variety of experiences, teaching
High School when he lived on the east coast years ago, to working
in management for a number of large corporations to being an entrepreneur.
Mell runs his own job search firm, Execusearch. Execusearch's goal
is to discover employment opportunities for people within Chicago’s
communities with companies that would provide his clients with sustainable
income. Mell’s
professional experiences have given him a business-minded perspective
steeped in a deep commitment to integrity, fairness and compassion
for those he either works for or puts to work.
Angie Higginbotham holds B.A., B.S., M.A. and M.S. degrees. She has
worked in the Speech Communication and Education Administration for
over 20 years. She has leadership experience with the Chicago Public
Schools working with children ages 0-5 years old. Presently, she is
the coordinator of CPS Central Offices--Early Childhood Special Education.
